Shooting victim identified in Greenbrier County

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — One man is dead in Greenbrier County after an apparent robbery attempt.

Greenbrier County Deputies say they were called to an apartment at Circle J Square in Fairlea, West Virginia around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. There they found Clayton Ware, 33, of Fairlea dead in his apartment of a gunshot wound.

Investigators say they spoke to Travis Norwood, 29, of Fairlea who claimed he was the victim of an alleged robbery attempt by Ware. Deputies say both Ware and Norwood had spent much of the afternoon together when things broke out in a severe altercation resulting in gunfire and Ware’s death.

Investigators say so far no charges have been filed, but they are continuing to look into the case and will await the results of an autopsy before deciding whether any charges will be filed.
