MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The second edition of the girls high school basketball MetroNews Power Index computer rankings was released on Wednesday.
Morgantown (13-0) remains No. 1 overall, followed by Huntington (13-0) at No. 2 and Lincoln (13-0) at No. 3, the highest Class AA team. Parkersburg South (11-3) is No. 4 and Wyoming East (14-0) No. 5.
The highest Class A school rated is Gilmer County (12-1) at No. 27. Two-time defending Class AAA state champion Morgantown (11-0) is No. 1, followed by Huntington (10-0) at No. 2, Lincoln (9-0) at No. 3, Greenbrier East (10-0) is No. 4 and Wyoming East (12-0) No. 5.
The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 26.
There will be two more girls basketball releases this season: Feb. 10 and Feb. 24.
This is the 30th year for the MetroNews Power Index, powered by MVB Bank and 31st season that MetroNews will broadcast the WVSSAC state championship games.
