FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont Senior receiver Nick Davisson added to the list of WVU preferred walk-ons. The 5-foot-10, 165 pound standout with the Polar Bears announced his decision last week, prior to this week’s national signing day.
“I’ve wanted to be a Mountaineer since I was big enough to catch a football, so it really wasn’t a hard decision for me,” Davisson said. “It’s the Big 12 and being close to home – you can’t really beat that. (They liked) my shiftiness and my hands, a couple of things that you can’t teach. That’s probably what they looked at the most with me.”
Davisson had plenty of D-II offers, including Fairmont State, Charleston and Alderson Broaddus. He owns the career touchdown reception record at Fairmont Senior.
“I didn’t really realize some of the numbers that I put up,” Davisson said. “But it’s all starting to set in. It means a lot to me – there have been a lot of good receivers that came out of Fairmont Senior, a lot of all-state guys and guys who went on to play college ball. It’s crazy to know that I’m at the top of that list.”
