CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Senate passed and sent to the House of Delegates Friday a bill that would legalize the use of raw milk, a bill Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin vetoed last year.
The bill would not allow for the retail sale of raw milk but calls for the establishment of herd share agreements where consumers could co-own a milk-producing animal.
Tomblin vetoed a similar bill last year. His veto message said the legalization “would pose a serious risk to public health.”
The Senate passed this year’s bill 22-12 Friday.
