Charleston man arraigned on B&E, fraud charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police have a man in custody for numerous felony charges.

Brandon Lilly, 30, was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court Wednesday and charged with one count of breaking and entering, one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, three counts of forgery and three counts of uttering.

The crimes took place in the South Hills area from October to December 2015, according to Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.

“We’ve had warrants for him for some time. He’s been in hiding,” Cooper told MetroNews.

Lilly allegedly broke into John Adams Middle School and several vehicles where Cooper said several items were stolen.

“Check books and other various items of that nature were stolen,” he said.

According to the criminal complaint, Lilly used a stolen debit card to make purchases at the 711 store on Oakwood Road that was taken from a 2015 Chevy Yukon parked on Bedford Road. Lilly then went to the City National Bank on Bridge Road where he forged and uttered a check of $1,625. He allegedly used the same identification card with the name Nathaniel Lanham at both locations on Dec. 11.

The complaint goes on to say Lilly gained entry into the middle school on Oct. 18 by breaking a front glass window. Once inside, he’s said to have stolen several electronics.

“We were able to locate fingerprints at more than one location where the break ins took place and we also have video surveillance images that we’ve identified Mr. Lilly from in more than one of the forgery cases,” Cooper said.

In all, Lilly could face up to 70 years in prison. Almost all of the counts Lilly is charged with carries a 1-10 prison sentence.

Lilly remains at the South Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.

Kanawha County Assistant Prosecutor Maryclaire Akers asked for Lilly to be on home confinement if he posts that bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
