HS girls basketball MetroNews Power Index: Feb. 10 release

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The third edition of the girls high school basketball MetroNews Power Index computer rankings was released on Wednesday.

Morgantown (18-0) remained No. 1 while undefeated Huntington (17-0) is No. 2. The highest Class AA team is Lincoln (18-0), coming in at No. 3 overall. Parkersburg South is No. 4 and John Marshall No. 5. The highest rated Class A team is Gilmer County (17-1) at No. 21.

After the Power Index was released, Morgantown lost for the first time on the season late Wednesday afternoon, falling to South Charleston on a last-second 3, 46-45.

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, February 9.

There will be one more girls basketball release this season on Feb. 24.

This is the 30th year for the MetroNews Power Index, powered by MVB Bank and 31st season that MetroNews will broadcast the WVSSAC state championship games.
