Tomblin appoints new Acting Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Administration

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Wednesday that Mary Jane Pickens was named Acting Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Administration.

Pickens will assume the role immediately in the wake of the resignation of former Acting Cabinet Secretary Jason Pizatella.

“Jason has been a valuable member of my team in a number of capacities for many years, and I’m grateful for his hard work and commitment to our state and her people,”Tomblin said. “I’m confident Mary Jane will excel in this new position, and I look forward to continuing to work with her as she takes on this new role within the Department of Administration.”

Pickens has served as Deputy Secretary for the Department of Administration, as well as Executive Director of the Board of Risk and Insurance Management, a role which she’ll continue to hold.

Pickens also served as General Counsel of the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner from 2003 to 2011.

She graduated WVU in 1982 and earned a law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1985.
