Elderly woman dies in Ritchie County fire

HARRISVILLE, W.Va. — A woman is reportedly dead after a Wednesday morning house fire in Ritchie County.

Crews were called to the scene in the city of Harrisville at approximately 9:17 a.m., according to dispatchers.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office who surveyed the scene said that the cause of the blaze was accidental, but the elderly female victim was unable to escape.

Officials have yet to release her identity.

The incident now joins a string of fires that have claimed lives in the state within the past week, with the Fire Marshal’s Office reporting six fire fatalities in as many days.
