Former Bluefield police chief Jim Dent dies at 74

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Former Bluefield police chief and Mercer County magistrate James “Jim” Dent died Monday at the age of 74.

Dent, the city’s former chief, served more than 18 years as a Mercer County magistrate.

He served in the Bluefield Police Department for 28 years, and was the chief of police for eight years.

Funeral arrangements for Dent at the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton were incomplete.
