KEYSER, W.Va. — A man and a woman that were killed in a Thursday night house fire in Mineral County near Keyser is being ruled as accidental, according to the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
The blaze happened at a residence on Knobley Road in the community of Fountain at about 11:30 p.m. The single-story home was full of flames when fire crews arrived on the scene, according to Fountain Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jeremy Taylor.
The fire spread to an outbuilding, four vehicles and a garage.
An 86-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man were found in a bedroom. Their bodies have been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.
Crews from around the region were on the scene for more than nine hours.
It’s the second major fire in Mineral County this week. The building housing the Berean Independent Baptist Church in Fort Ashby was destroyed by flames Wednesday morning.
Caleb Lusk, 27, of Fort Ashby, is in custody charged with first degree arson.
