FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Class AA No. 10 Lincoln picked up a road win over No. 7 East Fairmont on Tuesday, 5-4, in high school baseball action.
The Cougars (3-0), who trailed 4-3 after six innings, scored two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
“We have a gritty bunch of kids,” said Lincoln coach Mark Starkey. “They like baseball and they love to play. We probably won’t win every game, but they’ll fight to the end.”
Lincoln returned seven starters from last year’s team and will take an extra confidence boost after the victory over East Fairmont (4-4).
“It’s a nice win against East Fairmont,” Starkey said. “They have a good quality team and this will give us a little momentum and confidence of what we can do. I feel like we will play good defense and we’re capable of putting that bat on the ball against decent pitchers. If our pitching can hold up, we could have a pretty good year.”
