Third suspect involved with Harrison County murder has trial continued

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The third individual charged with crimes relating to the death of a Harrison County man last year will not stand trial until later this summer.

Kelsi R. Riddle appeared in court Wednesday during a scheduled hearing to go over the motion filed on her behalf to continue the matter.

Defense attorney James Hawkins said they would need more time to evaluate all possible defenses.

Also, much like in the case of codefendant Terrance Hilliard, DNA evidence tied to the case has not yet been tested.

Representing the state, Assistant Prosecutor Gina Renzelli reiterated that the West Virginia State Crime Lab had logged the evidence but had been unable to process it at this time. She also said that evidence sent to the FBI had not yet been processed either.

Judge Thomas Bedell granted the motion and Riddle waived her right to a speedy trial.

Riddle is facing charges of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the First Degree.

The state alleges that in the early morning hours of August 19, 2015, Riddle drove Terrance and Zachary Hilliard around Clarksburg as they searched for another individual.

Upon finding who they thought was that individual, the two men jumped out of the car and chased him down while Riddle remained by the car.

Zachary claims he realized it was the wrong individual but Terrance kept after him and beat him into a coma.

The victim, Doug Baldwin would later be found on his grandmother’s porch in Clarksburg several hours after the alleged incident.

He would die while in the hospital on September 8, 2015.

All three individuals were indicted back in January by the Harrison County Grand Jury on the same charges.

Zachary entered into a deal with the state, pleading guilty late last month to the lesser charge of First Degree Robbery and one count of Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Robbery in exchange for his testimony in the case against Terrance.

On Tuesday, a motion to continue the Terrance’s trial was also granted.

Both Riddle and Terrance are scheduled to stand trial beginning on August 22.

She is currently free on bond.
