Woman charged with smuggling drugs into jail

ELKINS, W.Va. — A woman accused of bringing drugs into the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in Randolph County is now incarcerated there.

State Police arrested Melissa Summerfield, 23, of Elkins Friday. Authorities accused her of attempting to sneak in Subutex and methamphetamine to the lockup. She was released from the jail a day earlier on an unrelated charge, but returned to the facility a day later trying to sneak in the contraband.

She’s now jailed in lieu of $20,000 bond.
