Man charged in Weirton overdose death

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weirton police have charged an Ohio man following a woman’s drug overdose death.

Police arrested George Kovach II, 44, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Saturday night and charged him with involuntary manslaughter and two heroin-related criminal counts.

According to police, Kovach purchased heroin in Steubenville, Ohio, and gave it to Deanna Nichole Tibbs, 21. The two were in a car in Hancock County when Tibbs injected the drug. Kovach later tried to provide medical assistance, police said. Tibbs was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Kovach was being held in the Northern Regional Jail Monday afternoon on $100,000 bail.
