BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Berkeley Springs High School received the U.S. Dept. of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award last Friday.
The school received the honor for its dedication to environmental education, farming and growing produce for the local farmer’s market, and conservation of energy.
The USDE has created a nationwide program to encourage schools to save energy, protect health and offer sustainability education.
“Berkeley Springs High School is a prime example of how West Virginia schools are dedicated to sustainability, health and wellness, and community engagement,” said WVDE Coordinator of WV Sustainable Schools Robin Sizemore. “The students participate in environmentally-friendly projects that incorporate science, technology, engineering and math skills, which plays a central role in preparing them for the jobs of the future.”
The honorees were named from a pool of candidates nominated by 25 states, Washington, D.C., and the Department of Defense Department of Education Activity.
