Michael Moore spends weekend in Charleston

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va — When organizers of the West Virginia International Film Festival scheduled their annual event at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston no one expected well-known filmmaker Michael Moore to attend but he was there both Saturday and Sunday.

He explained that he and some of his family members were trying to figure out where to spend the weekend to celebrate his 62nd birthday. They chose West Virginia and were pleasantly surprised to learn of the film festival and that his new documentary “Where to Invade Next” was showing.

Moore watched the film Saturday night and returned for the matinee showing on Sunday afternoon. He took some questions from the audience following the Sunday showing.

Moore said this weekend was the first time he had seen the completed project.

Organizers had a birthday cake ready for Moore Sunday. Earlier in the day he visited Taylor Books. He went to the New River Gorge Saturday, he said.
