Semifinalists named in WV Scholar Program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Fifteen West Virginia high school juniors have been chosen as semifinalists in the 2016 WV Scholar Program which awards a full scholarship valued at $125,000 to West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The semifinalists named Monday in alphabetical order are:

Madison Matheny           Parkersburg South High School
Bailey Mcinturff                Woodrow Wilson High School
Madison Robinson          South Charleston High School
Amber Sturgill                   Shady Springs High School

Taylor Walroth                  Hurricane High School
Chase Webb                      Roane County High School

The grand prize includes tuition, fees, room and board at the Buckhannon school.

Second prize is a four-year, $5,000 scholarship, while third prize is a four-year, $2,500 scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan.  All of the awards begin with the 2017 fall semester.

In addition to MetroNews and West Virginian Wesleyan, the sponsors for this year’s West Virginia Scholar Program include the West Virginia Hospital Association, the Home Builders Association of West Virginia, ZMM Architects and Engineers, the High Technology Foundation, Friends of Coal and the West Virginia Forestry Association.

The next step in the process is a one-on-one interview. If you are one of the 15 semi-finalists, please call Joe Parsons at (304) 346-7055 during normal business hours to schedule a time for your interview.  All interviews will be held this Friday, April 29, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in Charleston.
