INSTITUTE, W.Va. — The chair of the West Virginia State University Board of Governors will need to negotiate a contract for the new president of the university after the board narrowed down their top choice during a Thursday meeting.
The board authorized Dr. Ann Brothers Smith to negotiate the contract with the individual to secure employment for the university’s 11th president, said Kimberly Osborne, vice president of university relations and operations at WVSU.
“Once there’s a successful contract negotiation between the board chair, as a representative of the Board of Governor’s, and the individual, the university would then release the individuals’ name knowing that the contract still needs to be approved by the (state) Higher Education Policy Commission,” Osborne told MetroNews.
WVSU officials did not state who was being interviewed or any of the individuals who visited campus for public forums.
“I do not know at this point who they’re considering, how many they’re considering,” Osborne said.
Osborne said there was no telling of when the new president would be announced.
