Hampshire teacher charged with sexual abuse

ROMNEY, W.Va. — A Hampshire High School science teacher faces sexual abuse charges.

According to Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received information Tuesday that a male teacher at Hampshire High School was reportedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

Investigators gathered evidence that revealed Timothy Allen Detwiler, 33, of Slanesville, allegedly had sexual contact with the student while in a classroom at the school. So far the reported abuse is believed to have occurred during February and March.

Detwiler has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse by a custodian/guardian. He was arrested at his home without incident Thursday and was initially  held at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.

The investigation is continuing including a forensic examine of electronic devices for possible additional evidence. Additional charges are probable against Detwiler, deputies said.
