Donald Trump to hold Thursday rally in Capital City

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will make a campaign stop in Charleston Thursday. Trump has scheduled a rally at the Charleston Civic Center beginning at 7 p.m.

Trump is closing in on the Republican nomination, although Senator Ohio Governor John Kasich remains in the race. Trump overwhelmingly won the Indiana primary Tuesday night, after which Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dropped out.

“We’re excited to have Donald Trump come to West Virginia, to see our state firsthand and sort of share in the story of West Virginia,” said his state campaign Co-chair Mike Stuart. “We’re excited, we’ve got the Civic Center; this could well be the largest political rally in the history of the state of West Virginia.”

Trump campaign officials say those who want to attend the Thursday rally will have to get a ticket. They will be available at the campaign’s website donaldjtrump.com at no charge.

“What I would urge folks to do is let’s show Charleston in the best light we can,” Stuart said. “When Donald Trump is president, we want to make sure we have a partner in the White House that will be here many times to help us build West Virginia.

Stuart said that Trump now considers himself the presumptive GOP nominee, and foreshadowed another visit to a different part of the state before primary day.

“When we see someone like Hillary Clinton travel to the areas that she’s responsible for the destruction of, to tell us that she feels our pain, what’s great to hear is somebody like a job creator like Donald Trump who’s prepared to put West Virginians back to work and help build this economy,” Stuart said referring to the Democrat frontrunners visit to the state the past two days.

A MetroNews West Virginia Poll last February had Trump leading the field at the time with 40 percent of the vote with Cruz a distant second at 20 percent. Another edition of the poll will be released on Friday at 10 a.m.
