Body discovered in Monongahela River near Fort Martin power plant

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A body has been recovered in the Monongahela River.

MetroNews affiliate WAJR in Morgantown learned West Virginia State Police were called to Fort Martin power plant before 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Details were limited.

Further information is expected Friday and following a medical examiner’s report.

Thursday marked one week since witnesses told Morgantown City Police they saw Steven Tomasic, 35 of Lost Creek, jump in the river while crossing the Westover bridge. He was reported missing Monday.

City investigators spent 4 days searching by boat using sonar and kayak along the river banks from the downtown amphitheater to Star City.

Police told WAJR there was not enough information Thursday night to connect the ongoing missing person investigation to the Thursday discovery.
