Early voting totals outpacing previous years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Statewide totals from the first week of the 10-day early voting period easily  outdistanced totals from the first week in previous primary election years.

The Secretary of State’s Office released the totals Thursday. They show 63,205 state residents cast ballots during the past week. The next closest voting numbers in a primary were 36,303 ballots cast after the first week of early voting in 2012.

The early voting period ends Saturday. The Primary Election is next Tuesday when voting hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
