FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A Fayette County man is behind bars for a range of charges stemming from an apparent plan to make bombs and kill people.
Denver Julious, 66, of Hilltop, is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a destructive device or explosive materials, first-degree robbery, attempted murder, brandishing a dangerous and deadly weapon and battery.
Fayette County Deputies learned Julious had made several threats to various people of violence and received an anonymous tip he might have explosive material at his home in the community of Hilltop. Deputies executed a search warrant there on Friday. Authorities discovered several firearms and a substantial amount of explosive material which was apparently to be used to make a number of improvised explosive devices.
“The area where this incident occurred is a residential area with other residences in close proximity to it,” said Sheriff Steve Kessler. “Given the violent criminal history of this individual, the alleged threats that had been made and the potential danger to the community, we didn’t want to waste any time in moving forward with this investigation. We are very grateful for the assistance provided to us by the West Virginia State Police Bomb Squad in helping us to safely execute this search warrant, arrest the alleged perpetrator and collect the evidence.”
