Marion woman charged with sex abuse after boyfriend’s arrest

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County woman now faces charges after her live-in boyfriend was arrested on sexual assault charges.

According to investigators with the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, Tami Ferrell, 39 of Fairmont, ignored claims by the victim, who resided with Ferrell, against Robert Thomas.

Ferrell was arrested Thursday and charged with 2 counts of child neglect resulting in risk of injury and 1 count of sexual abuse by a parent, allowing sexual abuse to be procured on a child.

Robert Thomas was arrested Friday, April 22, on multiple charges in connection to a WV State Police Crimes Against Children Unit investigation.

During questioning, Sgt. Adam Scott said Ferrell admitted she’d been told by both the victim and other witnesses who cared for the child that the victim was inappropriately touched by Thomas.

Even after suspicions of abuse over a several month period, Scott said Ferrell also said she didn’t confront her boyfriend or notify authorities.

Ferrell was arraigned in Marion County Magistrate Court and was placed on a $30,000 cash or surety bond. Ferrell is currently incarcerated at the North Central Regional Jail.

In April Thomas, 45, was charged with 3 counts of felony child sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian and 2 counts of felony first degree sexual assault.
