CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police have a search warrant out for a man in connection to a deadly West Side bar shooting Saturday morning.
Donnell “Pops A Lot” Strong is wanted on charges of wanton endangerment and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Police said Strong is considered armed and dangerous.
Saturday’s shooting left a man dead and three other men injured at the Boondock’s Bar and Grill on West Washington Street near 7th Ave at about 1:44 a.m.
The fight ended in multiple shots being fired, Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper said.
“The altercation spilled over from a party earlier in another part of town,” Cooper said.
The murder victim, identified as Jamaine Sutton, 32, and the injured men were together. Most of them are from Dunbar. The injuries to the survivors of the shooting are not considered life-threatening, Cooper said.
The bar was very crowded, Cooper said.
“We’re glad more people weren’t shot. As many people that were in the bar it’s fortunate that more people weren’t hurt or killed,” Cooper said.
The shooting spread to the parking lot but Cooper said officers responded quickly and were able to gain control of the scene.
The shooting marked the first on Charleston’s West Side in a little more than four months.
The bar’s liquor license was suspended Saturday.
