CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Typically in the month of May, school children are wearing tee-shirts and shorts while they wait for the bus. However, Monday many were digging into their closets and grabbing hoodies and winter jackets as temperatures took an unseasonable plunge.
A mild frost was reported across much of the northern part of West Virginia. Those who failed to heed warnings to cover tender garden and flower plants are probably starting over today.
Parkersburg recorded a low temperature of 32 degree which broke the old record of 34 which was set in 1973. The only other record was in Huntington where it was 35 degrees and that tied the record low which was set in 1997.
Forecasters say the rest of the week should see milder overnight temperatures with no lingering chances for frost.
