Charges coming against four people following pursuit on U.S. Route 19

WORTHINGTON, W.Va. — A Marion County man is now behind bars after a short pursuit on U.S. Route 19.

Brandon Lee Marks, 31, of Worthington, is one of four people who, following a short vehicle pursuit with State Police, tried to flee on foot in a wooded area Wednesday evening.

A State Trooper was traveling to the scene of a minor accident when he was nearly hit head-on by a Ford Expedition that was passing cars in a no passing zone around a curve.

Corporal J.A. McDougal pursued the vehicle, but couldn’t immediately locate it.

Less than fifteen minutes later, the Corporal noticed the Expedition back on U.S. Route 19 in Monongah. He attempted to pull the driver over, but the driver kept going.

A four mile pursuit ensued. The vehicle headed up a path into a wooded area where four occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Troopers from the Bridgeport and Fairmont State Police detachments, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, and officers from police departments in Shinnston, White Hall, and Monongah performed a search to find the four people.

Police located Marks, who had an outstanding warrant for domestic battery, and arrested him. He faces an additional felony charge of fleeing in a vehicle.

Charges are pending against the other occupants of the car.
