Officials question airport donations

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Members of the Eastern Regional Airport Authority have some questions about money being offered by Inter-Modal Holding LLC (IMH) of Steubenville, Ohio, the company who presented the authority with a cashier’s check for $250,000 in early May.

The Journal reports authority chairman Rick Wachtel rejected a recent offer of $18,000 from the company to pay for landing fees.

At the Airport Authority meeting Tuesday, attorney Kin Sayre raised concerns about the company paying more than seven times the maximum landing fee rate at the Eastern Regional Airport.

Rod Kreie, IMH finance officer, said the Eastern Regional Airport would be involved in a trade corridor between San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Authority member Dennis Barron said he is concerned about the legitimacy of IMH’s offers, and he said he wants to know more clearly what, if anything, IMH is expecting from the airport.

Representatives from Inter-Modal are set to attend the Airport Authority’s next meeting on June 7, giving authority members a chance to ask questions.
