Three arrested in Fayette County after convenience store clerk and two others attempt robbery

LAVISTA, W.Va. — Police arrested three people from Fayette County following an armed robbery Wednesday evening.

State Police and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office effected the combined arrests of Marcus Briscoe, 19, of Fayetteville, Kelly Morton, 18, of Fayetteville, and Carrie Evans, 22, of Fayetteville in connection to an armed robbery at Bandy’s Sunoco convenience store on U.S. Route 60.

A cashier at the store was able to provide the Sheriff’s Department with enough information to begin a search for a suspect who had apparently fled on foot.

A review of the video surveillance footage revealed that the suspect and a woman he was with had been inside of the store for a “considerable” period of time before the alleged robbery was reported, which led to police questioning the cashier.

She admitted to police to conspiring with the two suspects to steal money from the store and that she had falsely reported the robbery in an effort to conceal the theft.

Briscoe and Morton face charges for robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Carrie Evans, the store cashier, faces charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and filing a false report of an emergency incident.

Store owners believe around $700 in cash was stolen. It is unclear how much of the stolen cash has been recovered.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
