CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Traffic was up on the West Virginia Turnpike during the Memorial Day Weekend.
From Thursday through Sunday there were 618,717 toll plaza transactions, an increase of just more than five percent over last year’s transactions, Turnpike Director of Tolls Steve Maynard said.
The busiest days for travel were Friday southbound from noon until 5 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday going northbound when there were between 1,700 and 1,800 transactions an hour, Maynard said.
The only backup reported happened between Princeton and Ghent Monday afternoon when a car ran off the highway going northbound.
Year-to-date traffic on the 88-mile toll road from Charleston to Princeton has been up over last year nearly four percent, according to Maynard.
