ATV crash claims life of Preston County man

MASONTOWN, W.Va. — State police are investigating an ATV crash that left one man dead in Preston County.

Nathan Shaffer, 24, of Masontown, died Wednesday after his ATV went off Bull Run Road Monday night.

Troopers said Shaffer’s family searched for him for two days before authorities discovered his body. He was last seen at around 9:15 p.m. Monday when he left friends at a fire pit near the Jenkinsburg bridge.

Firefighters with the Masontown and Bruceton fire departments used ropes to get 200 down a hillside where Shaffer’s body was found. The Preston County Medical Examiner determined his death was a result of the crash.
