Secretary of State’s Office waiting on several counties to submit Primary Election results

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In one week, the Secretary of State’s Office will need to certify results from last month’s Primary Election, but nearly 17 counties still need to submit their vote totals.

Secretary of State Natalie Tennant said she’s not concerned that some counties have taken longer than others because it’s all “part of the process.”

“There could be some recounts as we’ve seen in Logan County and in Upshur County and this just takes time. It takes time to hit all of these requirements for each of the counties,” Tennant told MetroNews.

Several counties have delayed their certification while others want to wait for their county commissions to approve the results.

State Republicans have said they won’t determine their list of delegates until Tennant’s office certifies the vote.

“I think they are just waiting for the official numbers also,” Tennant said.

Even without the list of GOP candidates to the national convention, Tennant said it was a long ballot to look at.

“We knew that every office was on the ballot except for U.S. Senate, so that made it a longer ballot from the beginning,” she said.

The Secretary of State’s Office has until June 9 to certify election results.

About 36 out of West Virginia’s 55 counties have submitted vote totals, but Tennant said that number was expected to change throughout the day on Thursday.
