CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Crews with West Virginia American Water Company are working to repair a water line break on Charleston’s East End.
The break was reported at around 4:30 a.m. Friday on Washington Street East from Morris Street to Leon Sullivan Way.
As of 9 a.m., that part of the road was still shutdown.
“High water buckled the pavement. A lot of road surface, debris in the road now. We’re working to get the area cleaned up,” said Bill Tate, assistant public works director for the City of Charleston. He was a guest on Friday’s “580 Live” on MetroNews affiliate 580-WCHS in Charleston.
Tate advised motorists get around the mess by taking Leon Sullivan down to Lee Street East and then back up to Morris Street to access the Charleston Area Medical Center.
There’s no word on how long it will take to get the road back open, Tate said.
“We don’t have an approximate time that Washington Street will be reopened,” he said.
