Third suspect in custody in non-fatal Beckley shooting from April

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A third suspect in a Beckley shooting has been arrested as part of a joint operation between the U.S. Marshal’s CUFFED Task Force and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.

Police arrested 21 year old Tyrell Smith Wednesday night during a traffic stop on I-77.

The shooting on April 17, 2016 injured two men on Plumley Avenue in Beckley, but neither injury was considered life threatening.

Police took the first suspect, a 16 year old, into custody in the days after the shooting. The second suspect arrested, Chevauhn Akeem Gray, turned himself in on April 22.

Smith faces two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Malicious Wounding, eight counts of Wanton Endangerment with a Firearm, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

The Beckley Police Department is investigating.
