Caregiver charged with murder of Virginia woman whose body was found near Romney

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Investigators say they believe a Virginia woman’s body that was discovered in Hampshire County Tuesday night was dismembered and dumped in the Romney area.

The body of Peg Sinclair, 85, of Frederick County, Va., was found on Scotty’s Gully Road right before 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Frederick County, Va. Sheriff’s Department. Authorities believe the body has been there since last week.

Officials confirmed her reported caregiver, Frances Hopkins, 55, of Berryville, Va., was arrested and charged with Sinclair’s murder.

Sinclair had been missing since early on the morning on Saturday, June 18. She was last seen near Lake Frederick.

Officers with the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the retrieval of Sinclair’s body which was sent to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
