Boy swept away by high water in Jackson County

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — A 4-year-old boy was swept away by flood waters in Jackson County Thursday afternoon.

It happened on Utah Road near Ravenswood at about 4:25 p.m., according to Jackson County Emergency Services Director Walter Smittle.

“Rescue teams have been searching for the child since that timeframe with no avail,” Smittle said.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies, state police, city police along with Ripley, Cottageville, Ravenswood firefighters were all assisting in the rescue effort.
