Flooding damages nursing homes

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Residents of several nursing homes in West Virginia were evacuated or moved to other locations inside their facilities because of flooding.

West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources officials say the 95 residents of the Nicholas County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richwood were initially moved to a church last Friday due to the flooding.  By Monday all residents had been placed in other facilities.

The 60 residents of the Pine View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville were evacuated last Friday.  DHHR says they were moved to other care facilities.

The residents of Meadow Gardens in Rainelle sheltered in place during the flooding.  Water reached the facility, but did not enter the building.  DHHR says many of the staff members suffered damage to their homes and property.

The cleanup is nearly complete at the Marmet Center where residents were moved to other locations within the building because of flooding.  Water came into the Alzheimer’s Unit and residents had to be relocated to other rooms.  DHHR says the building has been cleaned and all residents are back in their rooms.

DHHR says several other nursing homes have had to operate on emergency generator power.
