Kanawha County man arrested in connection with Monday shooting in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Detectives with the Charleston Police Dept. arrested a Dunbar man Tuesday evening in connection with an alleged murder on the West Side Monday night.

Clarence Murray, 40, who goes by the street name “Gooch,” was charged with the murder of 19-year-old Sheena Graves. Graves was fatally shot and two men were wounded near the Littlepage Terrace Apartments in the 1800 block of Washington Street West.

“He’s been identified by numerous witnesses as the man who was firing in the direction of the victim who was killed and of the other individual who was shot,” said Charleston Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.

Murray and another man identified by the criminal complaint as Danny Fortune were injured. Fortune was shot in the chest. Police say Murray was treated and released at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Graves was pronounced dead at CAMC after suffering a gunshot to the right side of her body.

Police said the shooting happened on foot. Murray was charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding.
