CLAY, W.Va. – A group of prominent college football coaches and West Virginia natives will be in the Mountain State next Wednesday in a combined effort to help football teams West Virginia that were affected from the devastating floods.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, offensive line coach Rick Trickett and Alabama coach Nick Saban will all be in attendance at Clay County High School, with a presentation surrounding the donations that have been collected around the country.
Fisher and Saban announced plans this week to take up donations in Florida and Alabama to help West Virginia teams replace their uniforms.
West Virginia lawmakers Doug Facemire and Mike Romano, along with U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, will join the group.
“This effort by these great coaches is an example of the kindness and concern that all West Virginians have for one another,” Facemire said. “For these coaches to return to West Virginia in our time of need says a lot about the people that this great state produces.”
The schools affected include Clay County, Elkview Middle, Herbert Hoover, Richwood and Richwood Middle School. The uniforms will be distributed with the cooperation of the WVSSAC and the WV National Guard.
“How fortunate we are to have these men,” Manchin said. “Who I proudly call my friends, that have never forgotten where they came from or the people that live here in our state.”
The public is welcome to attend the presentation on Wednesday.
