MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Pennsylvania safety Ricky Johns became West Virginia’s second commitment in the span of a few hours Sunday.
At 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, the Landsdale, Pa., two-way prospect from North Penn also holds offers from his hometown schools Temple and Villanova.
Rivals.com does not currently have Johns rated, while Scout and 247Sports list him as a two-star recruit.
West Virginia assistant Mark Scott is serving as the lead recruiter for Johns, who told Rivals that the Mountaineers have been his leader ever since they extended his first FBS offer in February.
Johns became WVU’s 11th commitment for 2017 and the fifth defensive back, though his trajectory in college isn’t necessarily set on defense.
Johns caught 48 passes for 949 yards and 11 touchdowns last season when North Penn reached the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA final.
“He’s an athlete, a bigger kid, who can be a defensive back and a wide receiver,” said Kevin Kinder of BlueGoldNews.com. “There’s a lot of different places he could land.”
