New warrant issued for Clarksburg man arrested in controversial video

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A warrant has been issued for Robert Shayne Marsh, 52, of Clarksburg, following his second consecutive failure to appear before a Harrison County Magistrate.

Police arrested Marsh on a number of charges earlier this month. That arrest sparked controversey when a cell phone video posted online went viral and appeared to show police using excessive force to subdue Marsh.

There were outstanding warrants out on Marsh for two counts of assault in connection to an alleged incident on June 7 with a postal worker and resident on Verdun Street in Clarksburg and one count of making a terroristic threat in connection with an incident at the GoMart on Rt. 19.

Marsh was later charged with four counts of resisting arrest and one count of failure to provide fingerprints.

Less than two weeks ago, Clarksburg Police Chief Robbie Hilliard said he had full faith in the officers who arrested Marsh–believing the force they used was necessary. At the time, Chief Hilliard said Marsh had 14 knives on his person and was attempting to use at least one of them on officers during the attempted arrest.

Marsh failed to appear in court last Monday for a hearing, but the hearing was rescheduled because of a possibility that proper notice hadn’t been provided to him.
