Dem delegates predict unity by end of week

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two of the 37 members that make up West Virginia’s delegates to the Democratic National Convention this week in Philadelphia predict unity among the rank-and-file by the end of the week.

Joe Jividen of Wheeling is one of 18 delegates pledged for Bernie Sanders while former state lawmaker Meshea Poore is a supporter of Hillary Clinton. Jividen said Tuesday on MetroNews “Talkline” that’s he’s willing to move past any differences or controversies between Sanders and Clinton.

“When your candidate moves past it I think it’s time for us to move past it as well,” Jividen said. “Bernie’s not holding any grudges and if he’s not, I don’t think I have any reason to either.”

Despite a somewhat ruckus start to the convention Monday, Poore predicts a stronger party following Clinton’s acceptance speech Thursday night.

“We are stronger together and we definitely understand that,” Poore said. “As the week goes on I believe there will be a lot more conversations about that.”

Clinton lost to Sanders by a wide margin in May Primary Election in the Mountain State. Poore said work is already underway to improve Clinton’s numbers in the fall when she’ll take on Republican Donald Trump.

“We’ve already been energized and we’ve been doing it for a few months now,” she said. “We are here doing work. We are fighting for West Virginia and to get a platform that will move our state forward.”

Jividen said he’ll be urging voters to really listen to what Clinton and Trump have to say between now and November.

“We can win on issues,” Jividen said.
