FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont Senior defensive lineman Darius Stills joined the MetroNews “Statewide Sportsline” show Tuesday night, reflecting on last week’s commitment to West Virginia.
Initially committed to Rutgers, Stills flipped to the Mountaineers after receiving a long-awaited offer from his home-state program.
“Once you commit to a school and want to decommit, it’s scary, because you don’t know how the conversation is going to go. But I had to be a man and call (Rutgers),” Stills said.
“It went better than I thought, because they understood where I was coming from with the West Virginia offer and it being my home.”
Stills said he always wanted to attend West Virginia, where his dad was an All-Big East linebacker in 1997 before beginning a nine-year NFL career.
“My dad played there and my heart has always been there,” Darius said. “I had to think a lot about it and talk with my family. But, I decommitted from Rutgers and committed to West Virginia. It felt right.”
