Former youth volunteer gets long prison term

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A former church youth volunteer, previously convicted of sexually abusing boys, was sentenced to spend 15 to 35 years in prison during a Friday morning hearing in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Special Judge Charles Vickers sentenced Timothy Probert, 57, of Princeton, following an earlier guilty to plea to more than three dozen charges.

Probert’s victims were between the ages of 10 and 16. The sexual abuse occurred at various times from 1986 to 2010 while he volunteered at Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as a mentor for the WE CAN (Working to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect) program.

Probert was originally arrested three years ago. He has already registered as a sex offender.
