Maryland man’s body found in Potomac River in Jefferson County

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. –The body of a Maryland man was found Monday in the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry.

Authorities said the body of 44-year-old Jason Wayne Downs of Frederick, Maryland, was found in the river.

Downs was on the West Virginia side of the river in a kayak Sunday evening and never returned. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

The body was taken to a medical examiner in Baltimore.
