Spell of Huntington heroin overdoses worse than expected; two dead

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Police say this week’s rash of heroin overdoses in Cabell County and in Huntington were worse than originally expected.

Police determined there were 28 overdoses in Cabell County instead of 26, which resulted in two deaths, one in the county and one in Huntington.

Officers believe the deaths are connected to a batch of heroin laced with something extra potent. The majority of the overdoses happened within a 6-hour span on Monday.

One of the two deaths originally came in as a medical call Monday evening, police said. It was later discovered the victim had a history of drug abuse, and he had several drugs in his system.

The other victim was discovered in Cabell County Wednesday. Police believed he died of an overdose Monday.
