McCabe on picking West Virginia: Huggins ‘a guy I wanted to play for’

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Jordan McCabe, the 2018 point guard newly committed to West Virginia, joined MetroNews Statewide “Sportsline” to recount how life changed as a fifth-grader after his grandfather took him to a basketball camp.

McCabe also discussed the importance of Bob Huggins offering a scholarship when the kid from Kaukauna, Wisc., was only a high school freshman.

“I had seen the Mountaineers play before on TV and I knew the uptempo style of play. But as soon as I met Coach Huggins myself, I kind of knew that was a guy I wanted to play for,” he said. “To have a Hall of Fame coach come in on me so early in the recruiting process, and continue to build a relationship with me, I knew in my heart of hearts it was the right fit for me over in Morgantown.”

Watch McCabe’s complete segment above, including how he learned to temper his flashiness in order “to run a team.”
