CHARLESTON, W.Va. — South Charleston senior Derrek Pitts returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and minutes later scored again on a fumble recovery as the No. 8 Black Eagles beat rival and 9th rated George Washington 13-6 on Thursday night.
“Our defense is going to carry us this year, but by the middle of the season, our offense will be putting up 21 points or more (per game),” Pitts said. “On the opening kickoff, there was a lot going through my mind. There was some stuff that went on at school with people coming at me. I just wanted to come out and prove them wrong. My team came out and developed (on the kickoff return) – they created a hole down the middle.”
