AKRON, Ohio — The West Virginia men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 14 Seattle in the season opener Friday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (0-1-0) outshot the Redhawks (1-0-0) 16-13, and held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. However, it was a pair of Seattle goals in the 15th and 44th minute that made the difference.
“You take a look at the game, and we traded punch-for-punch with them,” West Virginia coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “We were there. We gave up that late goal in the first half, which was kind of a backbreaker.
“At the end of the day, we have to look at ourselves and say ‘where can we find goals,’ because we had more shots, more opportunities and a lot of set pieces.”
