2 dead in separate Charleston shootings

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police have identified one of the two victims who were shot and killed during two separate shootings early Friday morning in Charleston.

Housein Keaton, 33, of Charleston, was shot to death on his front porch at 408 Randolph Street, according to Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives with the Charleston Police Department. Keaton was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We’re trying to piece that together. We have a good lead in the case right now,” Cooper said on Friday’s “580 Live” on MetroNews affiliate 580-WCHS in Charleston.

A few hours before that, another deadly shooting took place at around 12:35 a.m. at the Vista View Apartments on Renaissance Circle. Cooper said three Detroit men were involved in a shoot out leaving one man dead. Police have not released the victim’s name.

“A violent struggle took place between the man who showed up and two men inside,” he said. “All three were shot with the same weapon.”

Cooper said the man who brought the gun to the apartment complex ended up being shot and killed.

“There was a lot of glass breakage. It was a pretty violent struggle not including the gun fire,” he said.

At least two others were wounded in the shootings.

Investigators have been working around the clock Friday and will continue to, Cooper said.

“It was a rough night, long night,” he said. “We’re hopeful that we’re going to have everything pieced together on both cases sometime within the next 24 hours.”

Police said the shootings are unrelated.
